Project Title: Project Pajamas and Books
Project Description:

Since 2013, Angel Heart Pajama Project has provided over 42,000 children (about 90% of the seating capacity of the University of Arizona’s stadium) with new pajamas and new books. Angel Heart serves children who are abandoned, abused, placed in foster care, live in homeless shelters, have special needs, are children of refugee families, and are children of color ranging in ages from infant to 18 who are represented by 86% Hispanic, 5% African American, 7% Native American and 2% other.

Angel Heart, as the premier go-to resource in Southern Arizona for providing needy children with pajamas and books, conducts community pajama drives throughout the year. The pajama drives are sponsored by local businesses, corporations, schools, churches, and non-profit organizations. Over 100 dedicated volunteers collect, sort, assemble, and distribute new pajamas and books to our 80+ nonprofit partner agencies serving children in need and to 20+ emergency closets located throughout Southern Arizona.

The Mission Moments give tiny, powerful examples of how Angel Heart is making an impact through the anecdotal stories and testimonial letters from children, parents, agencies, and volunteers.

"Meet Vanessa, a very beautiful young child who is nonverbal and in foster care. When she received her little book, she hugged the book and signed that IT WAS HERS!"

"Meet one of our agencies who thanks us for always supporting our foster families and kids. What a joy it is to bring new pajamas to foster care children when they first arrive at their first foster care home. They appreciate the pajamas and books so much for the children!"

Angel Heart believes children have a right to wear new pajamas, own a new book, feel valued and loved, and have a goodnight’s sleep. Each pajama donation goes a long way towards positively changing the lives of Southern Arizona children.

Project Title: Project "Play Pal"
Project Description:

In 2017, the Taylor family received the devasting news that their daughter, Lily, had leukemia. She was only 3 years old and unaware of the journey she was about to embark on. Her road to recovery included 2 ½ years of treatment. Her hair fell out, her liver failed, she lost hearing in one ear. And she endured all that pain and sickness, isolated and alone, due to the weakened state of her immune system. No more trips to the park or playdates with school friends. Lily’s world, and that of her parents, shrunk to the size of their home. The loneliness of that journey is what became the foundation of our nonprofit, Lily’s Pad.

We have built a facility in Arizona that has been custom designed to meet the needs of an immunocompromised child. Our goal is to lessen the isolation and quarantine that these children experience by providing them with a safe place to play and socialize. Lily’s Pad is an innovative facility that combines design elements with cleaning protocol to create a space that is as clean as a hospital clinic. From closely monitored air quality to consistent cleaning practices, Lily’s Pad will provide a low-risk option for families to bring medically fragile children to play.

Project “Play Pal” is the funding source to keep play free for our families. We do not wish to add any additional expenses to their financial burden, and we want to be certain that our facility can be utilized by children of every income level. Lily’s Pad hopes to be a missing piece in the holistic approach to the healing of children through the gift of play.

Project Title: NorthBridge Foster Youth College and Career Program
Project Description:

School completion data for foster youth averages 46%, with 3.5% receiving their GED. The instability of shuttling from home to often abusive home, causes trauma, resulting in 34% of foster youth abusing substances, and only 3% graduating college. Half of aged-out foster youth end up in prison after their first year. Homelessness and the chaos that ensues become the norm. NorthBridge (NB) uses Coaches with Bachelor’s Degrees who mentor youth with learning differences in schoolwork and executive functioning skills. Learning differences include any learning dysfunction caused by trauma. Coaches instill stability and trust by being each youth’s consistent, personal mentor who works with them one-on-one. Mentors are trained to handle any contingencies and behavioral issues. They meet at least once a week in safe, neutral locations, including campus and public libraries. The project includes working to help each foster youth achieve independence. Job and career development is the road to independence with college being only one path to take. Some of the youth may want to attend college, while others want to find a job or work as an apprentice, gaining a job skill. Each of these young people learns executive functioning skills, which include appropriate communication, organization, time management, etc. Coaching sessions become safe areas where youth talk over issues that come up. They learn how to handle situations that trouble them. What they receive from the mentor is the support and consistency that was denied them in their often unstable home situations.

Project Title: Little Scholars Preschool
Project Description:

CCF would like to open two additional preschool sections for the 2023 – 2024 school year. CCF’s preschool classes are at capacity with over 100 families on the waitlist to enter the program. This funding would be used for student supplies and materials: Furniture needed to outfit a classroom.  Children’s tables, chairs, art easels, play areas, play kitchen set, book displays, bulletin boards, kidney activity table, alphabet rug, building block table. Offering two additional sections of Little Scholars Section One and Little Scholars Section two would allow CCF to increase the language and emergent literacy skills of 72 children next year as opposed to 36, decreasing the educational gap seen by the school districts in our area. CCF’s program success can be attributed to our exceptional delivery in the areas of Behavioral Health and Social Services. We are well known and trusted in the community we serve. It’s also beneficial to parents, as they can themselves attend educational classes at the same time their children are attending. CCF offers 4 levels of English as a Second Language Instruction, GED courses, Citizenship Preparation courses and Workforce Development programs.
