Project Title: Aging Out
Project Description:

Beacon For Purpose, founded in 2025, is dedicated to empowering individuals and families facing insecurities of daily living through compassionate support, essential resources, and educational programs that build life-skills, dignity, and long-term self-reliance. Our annual operating budget is $5,715.00. We serve underserved communities throughout the Las Vegas Valley of Nevada, including youth transitioning into adulthood. In particular, those coming out of the foster care system. Our Aging Out project focuses on preparing them to stand on their own two feet.

We respectfully request $1,500.00 from the Hermanowski Foundation to support our Aging Out project operations for 2027. These funds will sustain and expand our educational initiatives in goal setting, job readiness, financial literacy, and household management, helping participants apply practical skills that support economic independence.

The need is clear: aged out inexperienced young adults are sent out into communities with very little knowledge of how to manage their daily responsibilities; lacking access to foundational life-skills education. Beacon For Purpose responds through prevention-focused, experience-based programming that equips participants before challenges escalate into crises. Our goals are to increase confidence, strengthen decision-making, and build lasting pathways to stability in the underserved community of the Las Vegas Valley.

Beacon For Purpose was founded by Andrea Aguilar, Brandy Cramer, and Catia Ventura, whose shared commitment to education, collaboration, and measurable impact guides our leadership and culture. Thank you for considering our request and for your investment in stronger, more resilient communities.

Proposal Information

Today’s Date: 07/29/2026
Requested Amount: 5000

Project Title: STEM Experiences for Economically Disadvantaged Students (SEEDS)
Project Description:

BACKGROUND
iSPACE was founded by a group of scientists, engineers, and educators in Cincinnati, Ohio to engage and inspire young learners in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in 2001, the same year the National Science Foundation coined the acronym STEM.

Today, iSPACE provides 20+ hands-on STEM programs that engage 30,000+ students PreK-12 each year at our immersive STEM Learning Center, as well as in classrooms and communities throughout the region.

NEED
Diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences are vital to STEM fields, producing innovative, equitable, and impactful solutions to urgent world issues. Interest in STEM often starts in early learning, and substantial research has shown that exposure to high-quality hands-on STEM enrichment is an effective way to spark and sustain this interest.

Unfortunately, many schools in Greater Cincinnati with high populations of Black, Hispanic, and low-income students lack resources to provide STEM enrichment.

PROGRAM
SEEDS expands access to our immersive STEM Learning Center by removing financial barriers and prioritizing the most vulnerable students, enabling them to explore, experiment, and imagine themselves as future scientists, engineers, and innovators, while strengthening their interest in and confidence in STEM.

During iSPACE programs, students become scientists, engineers, astronauts, ecologists, and other STEM-focused roles, and are given real-world challenges to solve alongside their peers, working independently and collaboratively to achieve common goals.

One such example is our very popular iMISSION program, in which we leverage NASA content to simulate life and work on a lunar research base, challenging students to apply STEM knowledge and learn about STEM careers, all while building skills needed for future success, such as problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.

REQUEST
A $5,000 grant from the Hermanowski Foundation will engage approximately 275 students PreK-12 from low-income majority-minority schools in immersive programs that improve their knowledge and confidence in STEM.

Total Project Budget: $235,900

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): $152,900 Potential (Grants & Partial Program Fees); $48,000 Committed (Grants & iSPACE In-Kind)

Proposal Information

Today’s Date: July 28, 2026
Requested Amount: 5,000

Project Title: CSJ Garden Ministry
Project Description:

One of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s most impactful ministries is CSJ Garden Ministry, a seven-acre community garden that consists of 24 raised-bed plots for local families, vegetable gardens, a wheat field, goats, chickens, and a barn. A central component of CSJ Garden Ministry is providing free environmental education for children and families. With a small staff (1.5 paid), these have been offered on a part-time basis. Even with limited staffing, CSJ Garden Ministry reached 739 children through environmental education programs in 2025 demonstrating both strong community interest and the need for expanded programming. In late 2025, we added a new full-time member to the staff – an Environmental Educator – with the goal of broadening our educational outreach to children in the wider community. With this new position, our objective is to provide environmental education to at least 1,300 children and adults.

Expanded programming will primarily serve children (ages 3 and older) and adults from the Suffolk County communities of Brentwood and Central Islip. Many participants are from immigrant families and face economic hardships. As residents of communities experiencing environmental injustice and high population density, they are disproportionately affected by pollution and have limited access to safe, natural green spaces. Through hands-on experiences in gardens, farmland, meadows, and woodlands, offered at CSJ Garden Ministry participants gain meaningful opportunities to connect with nature. Research has shown that time spent in natural environments promotes physical and mental well-being, supports children’s social and emotional development, reduces stress, and strengthens family relationships.

We envision offering environmental education throughout the year, with programs available on a 12-month basis. In addition to expanding school-year programming, we will continue our popular summer programs for children and intergenerational experiences that engage entire families. Should a grant be awarded by the Hermanowski Family Foundation, it will be applied toward a new position – Environmental Educator.

Total Project Budget: $85,150

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): William and Maude Pritchard Foundation – pending; CSJ Ministry Fund – $10,000 Autumn fundraiser – To be held on 10/4/26 – expected to net $5000.

Project Duration: on-going
Geographical Area Served: Brentwood, Suffolk County, NY and surrounding areas
Age Group To Be Served: Primarily children from 3 – 14 years of age
