Project Title: Sustainable Agriculture Education Program
Project Description:

Marine Education Initiative’s Sustainable Agriculture Education Program empowers underserved youth ages 6–18 with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to grow their own food while protecting the environment. Designed for students from under-resourced communities, the program combines science, environmental stewardship, and food security education through engaging, experiential learning.

Participants learn how to grow fruits, vegetables, and herbs using sustainable farming methods including aquaponics, soil-based gardening, and hydroponics. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students gain practical skills in seed starting, plant care, harvesting, and understanding the food system from farm to table. By teaching youth how to produce healthy food in small spaces, the program helps build lifelong habits that support nutrition, self-sufficiency, and resilience.

A central component of the curriculum focuses on fertilizer pollution and its impact on local waterways and marine ecosystems. Students explore how excess fertilizers used in conventional agriculture can run off into rivers and oceans, contributing to harmful algal blooms and water quality issues. Through demonstrations and experiments, participants learn sustainable alternatives and responsible growing practices that reduce environmental harm.

The program is delivered through field trips, school partnerships, and community workshops at Marine Education Initiative’s new site in West Boca Raton (next to Horshoe Acres) and partner sites throughout South Florida. By blending environmental science with real-world agricultural skills, the Sustainable Agriculture Education Program inspires the next generation of environmental stewards while addressing food insecurity in vulnerable communities.

Through this initiative, Marine Education Initiative equips young people with the tools and knowledge to grow their own food, make environmentally responsible choices, and become leaders in building healthier and more sustainable communities.

Project Title: Building Confidence Through Knowledge: Camp Materials Initiative
Project Description:

KOS Inc. will provide hands-on learning experiences for elementary-aged children in Cobb County during school closure days throughout the year. While school breaks are often seen as downtime, they can be a challenging time for working families who still need safe, enriching environments for their children. KOS turns these closure days into opportunities for exploration, creativity, and skill building.
During these programs, students in grades K–5 participate in project-based workshops across several creative disciplines. Activities include STEAM and maker projects, fiber arts such as sewing and crafting, performing arts, and supervised introductory woodshop. Children design, build, experiment, and create using real tools and materials in a structured environment guided by experienced instructors.
Rather than passive childcare, the program focuses on active learning. Students may build simple engineering structures, learn basic sewing skills, create costumes and performances, or construct beginner woodworking projects. Each activity encourages curiosity, problem solving, and persistence while helping children build confidence in their abilities.
KOS serves children ages five to eleven and intentionally keeps programming accessible to families with diverse interests and learning styles. The workshop model allows students to explore multiple subjects and discover new passions they may not encounter during the traditional school day.
Since its founding, KOS has served over 2,500 children in the Cobb County community. Demand continues to grow as families seek meaningful ways for their children to spend school closure days.
By transforming school breaks into engaging learning experiences, KOS provides children with opportunities to create, collaborate, and gain practical skills that stay with them long after camp ends.

Project Title: Music for Love (Música por Amor)
Project Description:

Music for Love (Música por Amor) is a community music education initiative of the Asociación Suzuki de Violín de Puerto Rico that expands access to high-quality arts education for children in underserved communities. Inspired by the Suzuki philosophy—that every child can develop ability in a nurturing environment—the program provides structured group instrumental instruction, ensemble experiences, and family-centered learning opportunities that strengthen both musical skills and personal development.

The program partners with public schools and community organizations to serve students who often have limited access to arts education. Through weekly group classes, students develop fundamental musical abilities while also building discipline, confidence, creativity, and teamwork. The program includes performances, community concerts, and collaborative musical activities that help students experience the joy of artistic expression while fostering cultural pride and community connection.

Music for Love also integrates principles from music therapy and wellbeing practices. Music is used as a tool to support emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social interaction, helping students manage stress and strengthen focus and motivation. Family participation is a core element of the program, encouraging parents and caregivers to become active partners in their children’s learning process.

By bringing high-quality music education directly into schools and community settings, Music for Love helps address inequities in arts access while nurturing the next generation of young musicians, creative thinkers, and community leaders. Through this initiative, the Asociación Suzuki de Violín de Puerto Rico continues its mission of using music not only as an artistic discipline, but also as a powerful tool for education, wellbeing, and social transformation in Puerto Rico.
