Project Title: Workforce Development/Educational Assistance
Project Description:

The Well offers free food and drinks to the youth in our community along with multiple entertainment options. We offer an art corner, music, group activities, fundraising and community service opportunities.
Our goal has always been to provide a safe, fun, and grace-filled atmosphere. We help the kids believe in a better future for themselves and assist them in creating it. The Well strives to encourage the youth in our community to find their true potential. We offer basic human services such as food, shelter, warmth, supplies, etc. We help the youth become career and future minded, focusing on educational help, community service and being a part of something bigger. The Well wants kids to have vibrant lives that change the outcome of the individuals around them.
We are open currently Thursdays and Fridays 3-6. This facility offers kids a place to go for food, grace, shelter, entertainment, questions and purpose, productive activities, and educational assistance. We are also open on Tuesdays for a girls club focusing on mental, emotional and physical health. On Thursdays we have also started a Skate Club encouraging the kids to get outside and try something new.
We offer free food and drinks to the youth in our community. Our community has an ample amount of low-income families. Many of the kids in these families do not know where their next meal will come from outside of school. One girl shared with us recently that she does not really have food in her home and has gone days-weeks without it beside at school or work. We want them to be able to count on The Well for food security. Currently Thursdays and Fridays our doors are open with snacks and meals provided to the youth in our community, free of charge, no questions asked.

Project Title: Early Education Tuition Assistance
Project Description:

Fun Time Early Childhood Academy is committed to ensuring that every child has access to high-quality early education, regardless of their family’s financial situation. To achieve this, we aim to expand our financial aid program to reach more low-income working families in our community. This initiative will provide critical support by subsidizing tuition fees and offering targeted scholarships, removing financial barriers that might otherwise prevent children from participating in our programs.

By investing in financial aid, we empower families to pursue employment and education opportunities while knowing their children are receiving the care, learning, and developmental support they need. Our approach ensures that every child, regardless of background, can benefit from our enriched curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, and nurturing environment.

This expansion not only supports children’s early learning but also strengthens families by reducing the financial strain that often accompanies childcare costs. By providing these resources, we create pathways for children to enter kindergarten ready to succeed, while parents gain peace of mind and the ability to maintain stable employment.

Through this grant, we will be able to significantly increase the number of families receiving assistance, directly impacting children’s educational outcomes and overall community well-being. Supporting our financial aid program is an investment in the future of our children and the stability of the families we serve, ensuring that economic barriers do not limit a child’s opportunity to thrive.

Project Title: Civic Education Curriculum Pilot Program
Project Description:

The Institute for Youth in Policy (YIP) humbly submits this letter of inquiry to explore the grant opportunities provided by the Foundation in support of our discourse-based Civic Education Curriculum Pilot Program.

YIP is a 501(c)(3)-registered nonpartisan organization founded to promote civic engagement and discourse among youth through education, research, and policy-based media. Empowering youth with tools for critical thinking, empathy, and collaboration is essential to their well-being and success as leaders. Our Pilot Program embodies these values, as it aims to promote open and nonpartisan discourse that balances various viewpoints. This program is singular in its blend of traditional classroom learning combined with a novel high-school-focused curriculum. Participants can meaningfully discuss political issues and foster critical thinking. Moreover, students are challenged to confront biases and respectfully engage in discourse, and develop lifelong critical-thinking skills and an open mindset with which to approach the world.

So far, it has been piloted in twelve U.S. secondary schools, reaching over 300 students. It was also presented at the College Board 2023 AP Annual conference, recognized as the only student-led presentation. Three years from now, YIP anticipates influencing over two million people annually. The civic education pilot project is a crucial aspect of this vision, directly aligning with our role in transforming youth civic engagement. Funding this project will enable us to lay the groundwork for the kind of large-scale impact YIP is committed to achieving. YIP could expand its pilot programs to more U.S. schools and embed itself within classrooms, furthering access to quality civics education in schools. We would be honored to enrich students’ lives by offering opportunities to engage in responsible citizenship and progress their personal development.
