Proposal Information

Today’s Date: June 10, 2025
Requested Amount: $10,000

Project Title: The Children’s Gallery Chicago: After-School Arts & Academic Enrichment Program
Project Description:

The Children’s Gallery Chicago is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit transforming after-school hours into creative, educational, and emotionally supportive experiences for underserved Chicago youth. In our pilot year, we will directly serve 150 children, ages 5–17, through free after-school programs blending visual arts, creative writing, academic tutoring, and mentorship.

Our initiative responds to an urgent need: for every child in an after-school program in Chicago, three more are waiting for a spot. With foundational funding, we will partner with 2–3 public schools or community sites on the South and West sides of Chicago to offer high-impact programming that improves school engagement, boosts literacy, and cultivates emotional resilience. Led by skilled teaching artists and tutors, our model centers identity, creativity, and connection—making sure no child is alone during peak hours for youth crime and risky behavior.

Funding from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation will directly support our 2026 program cycle, enabling us to expand our pilot work into a full-year initiative at partner school sites. This investment will allow young participants to complete original art and writing portfolios, build academic confidence, and experience the joy of being seen, heard, and celebrated.

The project will be evaluated through attendance, pre/post academic assessments, creative portfolios, and stakeholder surveys. Every dollar of the grant will be spent within the 2026 program cycle and reported accordingly. Together, we can make the after-school hours a canvas for growth, safety, and hope.

Total Project Budget: $275,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Pending foundation grants; Individual donors and grassroots sponsors; Earned income from youth-designed merchandise; In-kind support from community partners and local businesses

Project Duration: January 2026 – December 2026

Project Title: Youth Education & Prevention Live Presentation Program
Project Description:

Decades of research from respected academic institutions have shown that pornography consumption can have significant negative impacts on individuals, relationships, and society. Despite this, many people remain unaware of the harms associated with porn. As the influence of pornography continues to grow, it is increasingly important to educate audiences about its well-documented harms, including its connections to all forms of sexual exploitation. This is particularly crucial for the rising generations of youth who are growing up in the digital age, as it is now statistically a matter of when—not if—they will be exposed to pornography.

Fight the New Drug’s Live Presentation Program offers age-appropriate, interactive presentations that include relevant research, humor, and engaging multimedia elements to captivate and educate audiences about the harmful effects of pornography. The content and materials for the Live Presentation Program are carefully curated with oversight from qualified researchers, academics, and clinical professionals, ensuring quality, accuracy, and effectiveness in addressing how pornography can impact individuals, relationships, and society.

A variety of unique presentations are available for middle school, high school, and college/university students, as well as for parents, educators, community leaders, professionals, and industry leaders. These presentations provide transformative educational opportunities that empower audiences to make informed choices and promote positive change.

We are currently seeking funding to update this program and certify additional presenters to ensure this pivotal educational and preventative program is broadly accessible to youth in need across the country.

Proposal Information

Today’s Date: June 6, 2025
Requested Amount: $10,000

Project Title: Ethical Leadership for Economically Disadvantaged Students
Project Description:

Students Shoulder-to-Shoulder (SStS) equips high school students to become ethical leaders through immersive, international service-learning experiences. Our mission is to inspire and support generations of ethical leaders who act with integrity, serve their communities, and pursue solutions that balance economic growth, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship.

What sets SStS apart is our deep, sustained commitment to both leadership development and equity. We do more than expose students to global challenges—we empower them to take meaningful action alongside nonprofit leaders working in communities across four continents. Students engage in a structured program that includes ethical case studies, international fieldwork, and a local community project upon return.

Our approach is supported by a diverse, cross-sector ecosystem that includes students, educators, nonprofit professionals, businesses, alumni, and philanthropists. We prioritize inclusive governance, intentional equity, and shared leadership. Each year, our Ethical Leadership Forum brings all stakeholders together to share strategies and stories of applied ethical leadership in action.

Our request to the Hermanowski Foundation is to support need-based scholarships for high school students from low-income backgrounds. These scholarships eliminate financial barriers, opening access to transformational experiences that many students would otherwise be unable to afford. One alumnus—now entering Stanford Law—describes the SStS experience as a turning point that reshaped his life’s trajectory.

Your support will help create a powerful ripple effect: ethical leaders emerging from underserved communities and carrying that ethic into their schools, careers, and civic lives. This grant will also be matched—potentially doubled—by our partner organization, Summer Search, which operates in the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Seattle, thereby amplifying the impact of your investment.

Total Project Budget: $50,000
