Project Title: Car Seat
Project Description:

We are kindly requesting a grant to fund a specialized car seat for a child with an Omphalocele. This birth defect is a congenital abnormality in which the organs of the abdomen stick out through an opening in the abdominal wall.
There is a Jefferson car seat is specially designed for children with an omphalocele. The two buckle positions ensure the buckle/ harness does not come into contact with the omphalocele. The specialized Jefferson car seat MSRP is $1,500. This is a very high cost for families already facing high medical costs. O Warrior is the only non profit dedicated to serving families facing this diagnosis. O Warrior has an arrangement with the manufacturer of the Jefferson car seat ( Merritt) to purchase the seats at the wholesale price of $850. O Warrior then ships the car seats to families in need across the US. Total cost including shipping for 1 car seat is $2,000.
The Hermanowski Foundation mission of providing children tools they need to succeed fits well with our project to provide a safe car seat to our O Warriors! Your generous $1,000 grant will provide a family in the US with a Jefferson Car Seat.

Project Title: Pathways to Careers in Healthcare
Project Description:

Pathways to Careers in Healthcare is an innovative workforce development initiative in Valley County aimed at addressing the healthcare workforce shortage while providing valuable career opportunities for local high school students. This program, a collaboration between Two Rivers Economic Growth, Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital, Prairie Ridge Village, Milk River, Inc., Valley View Home, and area schools in Glasgow, Nashua, Hinsdale, Opheim, and Frazer, enables students to earn high school credit while obtaining their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.

Training will be provided by the Montana Health Network, ensuring students receive high-quality, industry-standard education. Participants will gain hands-on experience by working in local healthcare facilities, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. This initiative not only introduces students to meaningful healthcare careers but also helps meet the staffing needs of essential healthcare providers in Valley County.

A critical feature of the program is its accessibility—students can participate at no cost, eliminating financial barriers. Two Rivers is actively seeking funding to cover tuition and certification fees, ensuring equity and inclusion for all students, particularly those from underserved communities, including Frazer and other low-income families in the region.

By equipping students with skills and certifications, Pathways to Careers in Healthcare empowers the next generation of healthcare professionals while supporting the economic and workforce needs of Valley County. This program serves as a model for rural communities, demonstrating how collaborative efforts can create opportunities for young people and address critical labor shortages in vital industries.

Requested Amount: $7,000.00

Project Title: The Passport Program at The Student ACES Center (The SAC)
Project Description:

The Passport Program at The Student ACES Center (The SAC) in Belle Glade, Florida, equips high school students with the tools to graduate and thrive by addressing systemic challenges. The SAC is an afterschool program that also operates throughout the summer, providing a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for students. The program breaks the cycle of generational poverty and fosters healthy lifestyles through seven key focus areas: Academic Advising, Career Readiness, College Prep, Health and Wellness, Mental Health, Character Development, and Entrepreneurship. The Passport Program is research informed and developed by the Student ACES organization.

Students progress at their own pace, completing structured tasks that align with their grade level. After each grade the students receive a new passport book. Each completed task earns a stamp in their personalized passport book, motivating them intrinsically while tracking their growth. The Passport Program’s unique design supports students in navigating educational and professional pathways, preparing them for post-secondary success and stable, supportive environments.

By addressing the social determinants of health, the program helps students overcome barriers such as inadequate education, poor health outcomes, and economic instability. Operating year-round, it offers daily support, mentorship, and access to vital resources that foster confidence and life-readiness. The Passport Program Manager, Tajelia Green, a Student ACES alumna, exemplifies the program’s mission by mentoring students in her home community.

The program’s impact is evident: over 99% of participants report improved decision-making, mental health awareness, confidence, and preparedness for life beyond high school. The Passport Program embodies a dual-pronged prevention approach, combining structured tasks with supportive relationships. Its holistic and measurable outcomes align with the mission of the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Foundation to provide young people with the tools to succeed and reach their full potential. This innovative program serves as a model for empowering youth in underserved communities nationwide.
