Project Title: Earth Voice Inspiring Shift
Project Description:

Our Mission: EG’s mission is to empower young people to become influential leaders at the intersection of the climate and social justice movements.

Need /Significance of the problem to be addressed: This program recognizes the historical and ongoing impact of climate change on marginalized communities, with particular emphasis on BIPOC youth, who often bear the brunt of climate chaos, whose communities are most affected, and least resourced.

Summary of Project: Earth Voice: Inspiring Shift is a comprehensive initiative that seeks to bridge the gap in accessible environmental education and elevate the voices of marginalized youth in the climate justice movement. In 2024 – 2025, Earth Guardians plans to send our top public speakers, all QT-BIPOC individuals, to twenty-eight middle schools/high schools. Each school event will consist of a keynote and slide show on climate youth activism and the climate crisis, guidance on starting an EG school Crew, a voter registration drive at appropriate events and an afternoon of art-ivism and action. The direct actions will include activities such as wheat pasting, chalking, sign-making, soapboxing, or other forms of art merging with environmental/climate activism. Following these events, EG’ staff will provide ongoing support to the newly formed school Crews through mentorship, project grants, training, networking, and leadership opportunities. Our goal is not only to engage more youth in climate justice activism but also to offer them positive mentorship, a supportive community of peers, and enriching activities.

Involvement of Those Served: All members of our Speakers Bureau are BIPOC youth who live in the targeted cities and have firsthand experience with the challenges faced by their peers in the public school system. Their lived experiences, including the effects of environmental racism, gender inequity, and extreme climate change impacts, shape our work and collaborations.
