Project Title: Beds for Kids
Project Description:

Buffalo Prenatal Perinatal Network is seeking funding to launch a new project called, “Beds for Kids” to purchase cribs, toddler beds and mattresses for clients who are displaced women with children due to domestic violence or living in shelters or on the streets.

We fully believe that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs. All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. Across the U.S., too many boys and girls go without a bed – or even a pillow – to sleep on. Over 800 in Western New York end up sleeping on couches, air mattresses, blankets, floors or with other members of their family. This can affect their happiness and health; it will break your heart.

Buffalo Prenatal Perinatal Network mission is to help families who are currently lacking resources to establish (or reestablish) a self-sufficient life by providing them with the necessities of a functional home environment. We focus on ending child bedlessness to improve overall health and wellbeing. Through our “Beds for Kids” Project, we will provide babies and children living in poverty with beds, bedding, and tools that encourage healthy bedtime habits, so they can get the quality and sufficient sleep they need to thrive.

Please take the opportunity to review our website to learn more about us and what we do at www.bppn.org. If you have any questions or need additional information, contact LuAnne Brown, CEO at 716-884-6711 (lb@bppn.org).

Project Title: Miracle League recreational programs for children with disabilities
Project Description:

Miracle League is the only nonprofit organization to provide year-round recreational programs for children with disabilities in the West Texas, Southern New Mexico area. Our participants begin at age 3. We offer eleven sports including tee ball, kickball, soccer, and basketball, to name a few. All children are provided full uniforms, equipment, awards, and celebrations . We are an all volunteer organization, no one gets paid a salary and all funds are distributed among the sports programs to offset overruns and provide supplemental insurance. We fundraise year round and rely on grants, sponsorships, donations to help provide a healthier lifestyle to a more sedentary population. Miracle League was established in 2005, by Raul and Sandie Olivar after watching a program on HBO Sports. Sandie and Raul were active members of a volunteer organization at A T &T and after thirty years of employment Sandie used her retirement money to start the programs. Miracle League began with tee ball and baseball and has steadily added other sports to the league. The athletes play on teams in a league setting with “buddies” (volunteers from high school or college or community members) assigned to players needing the added assistance to make the game a great experience foe the player. Some of our sports teams participate in Special Olympics competitions locally and at the state level. Our players are asked to pay a $25 registration fee per sport and we handle the rest. Many of our players are unable to pay but they play just the same. We collaborated with the Junior League of El Paso and raised 1.5 million dollars building a specially designed baseball field and complex for our participants. We play as many of our sports on the rubber field and include athletes using mobility devices.
