Project Title: Guiding Hands
Project Description:

The Guiding Hands program addresses a pressing need within our community by providing essential support to youth who have aged out of foster care or reside in group homes. Our program involves pairing each participant with a dedicated volunteer who serves as a mentor and guide throughout their shopping experience. This one-on-one interaction is a cornerstone of our initiative, fostering a supportive and trusting relationship between the participant and their mentor.

During the shopping trip, the volunteer plays a crucial role in imparting practical life skills to the participant. This includes guidance on budgeting, making informed purchasing decisions, and navigating the retail environment. The mentor not only provides assistance with selecting essential items such as groceries, clothing, and personal care products but also offers valuable insights on managing resources responsibly.

Beyond the transactional aspect of shopping, these outings become interactive learning experiences. The volunteer engages the participant in discussions about meal planning, comparing prices, and identifying cost-effective alternatives. This hands-on approach empowers participants with the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices, contributing to their overall development and self-sufficiency.

We are seeking support to expand the reach of our Guiding Hands program by securing $5,000 to purchase ten $500 gift cards. This grant will enable us to help guide 10 youths who are transitioning into adulthood. We want to continue making a positive impact on the lives of teenagers in foster care, empowering them to face the challenges of adulthood with confidence and a sense of belonging.

Project Title: Strike out youth violence
Project Description:

I am writing on behalf of RESET INC to request your support for our "Strike out youth violence" bowling event. Our organization is full of Hampton Road natives, from our volunteers, board members, participants, sponsors, and donors. Our goal is to give back and make a noticeable difference in the lives of families from underserved communities. We strive to be better than we were the day before and we take pride in our outreach which holds us accountable and keeps us focused on the mission. We make sound decisions and act with purpose in every outreach opportunity we host or participate in. We are the change that we want to see. If a monetary donation is not available…We would like to request a gift card or merchandise donation is sponsorship or a monetary donation is not available.
In 2022, children between the ages of 11-17 made up 13% of violent offenders in Virginia. This was an increase from the 10% it had been in 2021. In 2022 over 17% of auto thefts were done by people under the age of 18 years old. The Hampton Roads community needs youth intervention. Statistics show that there has been a rise in youth gang violence, youth murders, and increased juvenile detention rates. This has contributed to the lack of programs for youth and safe places for youth to go. The lack of funding, youth centers, transportation, and hunger has led many youths to stray.
According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, youth violence is linked to negative health and well-being outcomes and disproportionately impacts communities of color. Violence increases the risk for behavioral and mental health difficulties which include: (1) future violence perpetration, (2) future violence victimization, (3) smoking, (4) substance abuse, (5) obesity, (6) high-risk sexual behavior, (7) depression, (8) academic difficulties/school dropouts, and (9) suicide. We are expecting an audience of over 200+.

RESET INC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Your sponsorship is tax deductible to the extent permitted by the IRS. EIN for tax purposes is 93-2269666.
