Project Title: High Five for Northern Nevada Children (HFFNNC) Program
Project Description:

The purpose of our HFNNC Program is to provide gap funding for urgently needed medical, dental, psychological, well-being, and educational products/services (five key areas), allowing at-risk children the opportunity to thrive.
For Kids Foundation considers applications from any child living in Nevada (all counties, excluding Clark County), from birth to age 21, regardless of gender, nationality, citizenship, religious affiliation, or race.
Families apply for assistance via our website; within 24 hours, we conduct an interview with the family to ascertain need; we search database for known (always searching for new) alternative funding sources; we request discounts from service providers; we request supporting documents from the professionals working with the child (pediatrician, therapist, or educators) to substantiate the request; and, every 14 days, we present applications for full Board review. If approved, we pay the service provider directly or order the product to be delivered.
Our goal is to provide funding or provide alterative resource if available for every eligible child who applies for assistance. We track age, gender, geographic location, discounts received from service providers, the types of requests (medical, dental, psychological, well-being or educational), and whether request was approved/denied/alternative found/canceled by parent. After an Award is paid, we follow up with the family and the service provider to ensure delivery via phone, email, or online survey. We ask for a status report on the child from the parent/guardian. Due to the confidential/sensitive nature of psychological requests, we depend on the family to update us on how the child is doing. In the case of educational awards, however, we ask for monthly status reports from the professionals providing educational assistance before continuing to fund an award for the allotted time period. We reach out to families at the end of approved Award to learn current status of the child.

Project Title: Train and Educate Students on Nursing Assistant
Project Description:

According to the United States Registered Nurse Workforce Report Card and Shortage Forecast published in the September/October 2019 issue of the American Journal of Medical Quality, a shortage of registered nurses is projected to spread across the country through 2030. In March 2022, the American Nurses Foundation and the American Nurses Association released the results of its COVID-19 Impact Assessment Survey, which found that 52% of nurses are considering leaving their current position due primarily to insufficient staffing, work negatively affecting health and well-being, and inability to deliver quality care. In addition, 60% of acute care nurses report feeling burnt out, and 75% report feeling stressed, frustrated, and exhausted. Nursing represents the nation’s largest health care profession and the largest single component of hospital staff. By the year 2030, South Carolina will be one of four states with a nursing shortage of more than 10,000 according to an analysis by the US Department of Health and Human Services. Additional nurses will be needed to care for the aging population, who typically have more medical problems than younger people. “The need for healthcare services is increasing as the number of aging baby boomers continues to grow," stated Sherrill Nielson, Chief Nursing Officer for McLeod Health Seacoast. "As a result, more nurses professionals and paraprofessional are needed to educate and care for patients.
