The long-term goal of Strong Deliverance is to empower young people through mentorship, adolescent round-table life-talk sessions, and educational afterschool tutoring to assist towards overcoming life’s challenges and/or breaking risky destructive habits that can be transformed into a path of future and potential positive possibilities of growth in adolescence that will lead to productive choices towards and into adulthood & late adulthood. The goal of the programs are to rekindle and maintain the youth’s commitment to learning, being successful in the classroom, and becoming self-sufficient in society, along with igniting their desire to heal, grow, and be productive in life. Project Title: Literacy Intervention and Enrichment Program
Project Description:

The Literacy Intervention and Enrichment Program (LIEP) is a small group, intensive and
immersive intervention program geared at supplementing the lessons taught in the classroom.
We will work with children in grades 5 and 6 that are struggling both with reading and
comprehension who need intensive support to achieve grade-level competencies. This program
would be held over 12 weeks with a group size of 10 students and 5 – 10 instructors. Our aim
is to provide 1- 1 instruction for each student with no more than 2 students to 1 teacher.

The children in this community as with other communities have experienced learning loss because of the pandemic. Although we have returned to in person learning, the effects of virtual learning are still being felt by many students who were having difficulties in the classroom prior to the pandemic. They have now fallen behind and need to be brought up to grade level. Our intent is to help increase the competency levels for these students with the overall effect being to improve reading and comprehension. This will have an end result of increasing language arts test scores in the district, improve district rating and instill a love of reading in the children participating in this program.
