Project Title: Homework Plus
Project Description:
The Homework Plus program was created to address educational inequalities for students in grades K-12 by providing one-on-one tutoring utilizing adult and high school volunteers. The Homework Plus program serves children four days a week from 3 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the academic year and features three components: homework, individualized tutoring, and enrichment.
• Homework: Our volunteer tutors spend a minimum of one session working with each student, providing homework assistance, reading/writing support, and educational skill-building activities.
• Individualized Tutoring: Our volunteer tutors use direct intervention for academic skill-building based on students’ individual needs.
• Enrichment: NDUEC staff engages students in STEM principles and concepts, art, music, current events, fun trivia, board games, billiards, basketball, and various planned activities. Sessions include speakers and activities from the Covington Public Library, Skool Aid, Cavaliers Care, AmeriCorps Seniors, and more.

Geographical Area Served: NDUEC provides educational assistance and serves students from Kenton, Boone, and Campbell counties in Northern Kentucky. Specifically, our programs focus on helping children and families living in the underserved areas of Covington, Newport, Bellevue, and Florence. Most of the children attending NDUEC come from schools in the Covington Independent School District, including thirteen schools serving approximately 3,950 students in grades Pre-K through 12. In addition, we help children ages PK-9 from the schools within the Diocese of Covington’s Alliance for Catholic Urban Education (ACUE), encompassing six elementary schools and nearly 660 students.
