Project Title: Reading Literacy Enhancement Program
Project Description:

The Reading Literacy Enhancement Program is a dedicated initiative aimed at supporting Black youth aged 5-14 in Metro Atlanta, Cobb County, GA, and Los Angeles and San Bernardino County, CA. This program acknowledges the critical role of early literacy in shaping future opportunities and cognitive growth, focusing on closing the reading literacy gap within this demographic. Participants engage in rigorous tutoring sessions twice a week, available at either no cost or a minimal fee, ensuring accessibility for all.

Our locations strategically span urban areas, offering both in-person and virtual learning environments to accommodate diverse circumstances. However, our program goes beyond basic literacy tutoring. We weave the essence of Black literature into our curriculum, elevating reading skills while nurturing a deep appreciation for diverse literary voices, particularly those of Black authors. Representation matters, and by introducing these young minds to narratives reflecting their own experiences, we foster a profound connection to literature.

Additionally, the program thrives on collaborations with community partners, including local schools, churches, and community gardens. These affiliations provide a holistic learning environment that not only supports academics but also promotes a sense of community and belonging. Furthermore, our active advocacy efforts aim to include Black authors in school reading lists, fostering a more inclusive literary landscape.

Our vision remains clear: to empower Black youth with enhanced reading skills, cultivating a love for literature and equipping them with the tools to navigate future challenges, both academically and beyond. Through the Reading Literacy Enhancement Program, we do more than teach children to read; we guide them on a journey where they find themselves in the stories they read, relate to them, and draw inspiration from them.

Project Title: 22 Ways to Inspire
Project Description:

Welcome to the 22-Ways Leadership Academy, a beacon of hope in the challenging landscape where educational opportunities often evade underprivileged youth. Our mission is to redefine success in the realm of non-profit organizations by empowering under-resourced students through transformative experiences that open doors to education, culture, and career pathways.

At our core is a commitment to addressing significant disparities in educational access, particularly within underrepresented communities, notably the black population. Our programs go beyond traditional tours; they are an odyssey for empowerment.

In 2024, our flagship initiative is ambitious yet purposeful – facilitating four national HBCU tours and monthly STEM and skill-building workshops for 160 students aged 14 to 24. These strategically chosen locations, including Atlanta, GA, Washington DC, New Orleans, LA, Texas, and North Carolina, offer culturally rich experiences that transcend conventional sightseeing.

The tours immerse students in the excellence of black culture, visiting renowned HBCUs like Clark Atlanta University, Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, Xavier University, among others. Students also explore the sciences at the Illuminarium Space Center, delve into history at Tyler Perry Studios and New Black Wall Street, and savor African American culture through culinary experiences.

In the non-profit sector, our entrepreneurial success lies in the effective execution of programs and tangible impact on the lives we serve. Conducting four HBCU tours and hosting monthly workshops for 40 students each, promoting cultural enrichment, financial literacy, and STEM exposure, are our immediate goals.

To achieve this, we collaborate with educational institutions, meticulously plan itineraries, and seek financial support through grants and donations. Funding is crucial for program implementation, staff compensation, and resource provision during workshops.

Our aim is to empower underprivileged students, broadening horizons, and increasing graduation rates within the black community. We measure impact through participation numbers, academic and personal development improvements, and feedback from students, educators, and parents. Successful fundraising, securing $100,000, signifies community trust and financial sustainability validation.

In conclusion, the 22-Ways Leadership Academy is not just a non-profit; it’s a catalyst for change. Our entrepreneurial success is gauged by the positive transformation in the lives of underprivileged youth. Join us in this journey, where every dollar invested is an investment in the potential of countless young minds, breaking barriers and inspiring a future filled with possibilities. Together, let’s redefine success and empower the leaders of tomorrow.

Project Title: Empowering Black Business Owners: A Round Table Event for Sustainable Growth
Project Description:

In pursuit of fostering a more inclusive and prosperous business landscape, we envision utilizing the funding from the Hermanowski Foundation grant to organize a transformative round table event specifically tailored for black business owners. Our objective is to create a platform that facilitates networking, resource sharing, and collaborative learning, ultimately empowering participants to thrive in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

The event will serve as a catalyst for meaningful connections within the black business community, addressing the unique challenges faced by entrepreneurs of color. By bringing together a diverse group of business owners, we aim to build a supportive network that fosters collaboration, mentorship, and the exchange of valuable insights.

One key focus of the round table event will be to provide practical resources that empower black entrepreneurs to overcome obstacles and capitalize on opportunities. Workshops and panel discussions led by industry experts will cover topics such as access to capital, marketing strategies, legal considerations, and navigating the evolving business landscape. By equipping participants with knowledge and tools, we strive to enhance their ability to make informed decisions and drive sustainable growth.

Additionally, the grant funds will be allocated towards creating a comprehensive resource guide that compiles essential information, contacts, and best practices for black-owned businesses. This guide will serve as a long-term asset, ensuring that participants continue to benefit from the shared knowledge and connections even after the event concludes.

Furthermore, we recognize the importance of fostering a sense of community among black business owners. The grant will support the development of an online platform where participants can continue to engage, collaborate, and share resources beyond the physical event. This virtual community will serve as a hub for ongoing support, fostering relationships that extend beyond geographical boundaries.
