Proposal Information

Today’s Date: 12/5/23
Requested Amount: 10,000

Project Title: Early Learning Center
Project Description:

Guadalupe School’s Early Learning Center (ELC) specifically serves low-income, racial/ethnic minority English-as-Second-Language families who have experienced at least one Adverse Childhood Experience. Collectively the ELC consists of three programs (In-Home Family Support, Toddler Transition, and Preschool) and serves nearly 200 students ages birth to 4 years old. The ELC boasts a well-educated staff and is led by Dr. Katrina Herd, who is experienced in early childhood and elementary education and holds a doctorate degree in leadership and policy. All ELC teachers have, at a minimum, a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or they are enrolled in a program to receive this credential within 1 year of employment. Lead teachers have, at a minimum, a current CDA credential and/or an advanced degree in a child development related field. Because of the high quality instruction and environment, the ELC programs prepare children for long-term educational success.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 relief funding that Guadalupe School has been receiving for the past three years will be expiring soon. This means there is approximately a $1 million gap in funding from last year to this year. Left unaddressed, the ELC’s capacity to continue serving the same number of students will be compromised. It is for this reason that this appeal is being made.
