Project Title: Common Ground Troy: Grow Together
Project Description:

Over the past three years, we have noticed a decline in students working effectively as a team. Teamwork is essential to all jobs and careers which CGT students will one day pursue. The CGT program decided to launch a gardening project in Summer 2023. The "Grow Together" program will focus on the essentials of gardening and working together as a team to reach a common goal (community involvement, community beautification, education opportunities, community gardens, and outdoor classrooms). In partnership with the Pike County Extension Office, students will use cutting-edge technology via a Cleartouch interactive system to learn gardening essentials. Virtual gardening classes will take place in the Fall and Winter while outdoor classes will occur over the Spring and Summer. Master gardeners will be available on-site to facilitate the gardening projects and the goal is to build four raised bed systems.
The target population for the CGT program are male students ages 11-17 (grades 6-12) residing in an underserved rural population. The current needs of our students are academics, nutrition, housing, discipline, mental health, and character/leadership development. The projected measurable outcomes are: grade improvement, improved discipline, school attendance, adequate nutrition, safe environments, workforce development, socio-emotional behavioral support, and mentorships. This grant will insure that we have adequate materials and supplies, transportation needs, quality curricula, and highly qualified staff to provide the services.

Project Title: Global Engagement Program (Language Fluency Program)
Project Description:

At International School of Arizona (ISA), we believe in the importance of global engagement and language fluency for our students. ISA specializes in bilingual language fluency, academic excellence and global awareness. Our fully accredited French and Spanish immersion programs start in Early Childhood and go through 8th grade. In addition, an English program with French or Spanish language acquisition is available in Middle School, no prior language immersion needed. ISA’s Global Engagement program is designed to help students become proficient and confident speakers of the French and Spanish languages.

The program encourages global engagement amongst our students at a young age. ISA’s focus on global awareness and cultural understanding can encourage students to become more engaged with the world around them. This fosters a sense of curiosity, empathy, and respect for other cultures and perspectives. These are essential for promoting cross-cultural understanding and peaceful coexistence in a diverse and interconnected world.

Our experienced teachers use a variety of methods, including interactive activities to help students develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The program is tailored to the needs of individual students to ensure that students get the support they need to succeed.

Our students not only gain valuable language skills, but they also become more globally-minded and culturally aware individuals.
