Project Title: Protecting Children from Abuse and Neglect Through Parenting Education and Support
Project Description:

Saint Joseph Parenting Center envisions a world where all children live free of abuse and neglect. We strive to achieve this goal by strengthening families and greatest risk of child abuse and neglect through comprehensive parenting education and support. We firmly believe that when you educate the parent, you protect the child. There are many organizations that work directly with children, but our model stands out due to its focus on the parent and its potential to provide sustainable change to the family unit.
SJPC is respectfully requesting $3,000 to support our female-focuses programming – our General Parenting Program (GPP) and our Women’s Circle Support Group. GPP consists of a 28-class curriculum ranging in a variety of topics such as behavior and discipline, co-parenting skills, understanding sexual abuse, effective communication, anger management, nutrition, budgeting and more. Each two-hour class is facilitated by a volunteer instructor, an expert in their respective fields, and helps to bring the community resources directly to the parents. Women’s Circle Support Group was created to target the needs of our mothers beyond our General Parenting Program (GPP). Women’s Circle focuses on women empowerment, including topics such as self-love, stereotypes, the role of women in society, and healthy relationships. This group allows our mothers to safely express their emotions, connect with other women on a deeper level, build their support network, and explore their past traumas in a safe environment. The group is facilitated by crisis counselors from the Rowan Center (a local sexual assault resource agency) and SJPC case managers are present within the group. All class offerings and individual services are provided in both English and in Spanish.
