Project Title: Recruiting Canines Specializing in Performing Canine Magic!
Project Description:
Canine Assisted Therapy provides pet therapy services to children and youth in South Florida. Children in the foster care system receive weekly visits from therapy dogs, children falling behind in their reading skills receive special services from therapy dogs at schools and children who have to testify in court are provided with therapy dogs to pet while they are testifying.
Currently, Canine Assisted Therapy has 130 certified therapy dog teams who volunteer in over 100 facilities throughout South Florida. There are an additional 100 facilities on a waiting list to receive our services. We wish to have the funds to recruit, train, evaluate, certify, insure and deploy new therapy teams to meet this great need.
Canine Assisted Therapy has formed partnerships with ARC Broward, SafePlace, Broward County Courthouse, Hospice by the Sea, Palm Beach and Broward County School Districts, Ronald McDonald Houses and Jack and Jill Children\’s Center just to name a few.
Canine Assisted Therapy\’s mission is to provide pet therapy to children and adults who have developmental and physical challenges as well as those who desire comfort and companionship of a loving pet. We improve people\’s lives physically, mentally and emotionally.
