Instruction is grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a research-based approach that uses structured teaching, data collection, and positive reinforcement to help individuals build communication, social, and functional life skills. Because many students with autism experience sensory processing challenges that affect attention, emotional regulation, and behavior, environments that support sensory integration are critical to their ability to learn and thrive.
Research shows that sensory-based environments can reduce anxiety, improve self-regulation, and increase engagement in learning activities for children with autism. A dedicated sensory room will allow Victory Center students to access therapeutic equipment that helps regulate sensory input while strengthening motor planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
The planned sensory room will include equipment specifically selected to support sensory integration and physical development. A raindrop swing will provide gentle movement and deep pressure that help students calm their bodies, develop body awareness, and improve motor planning. A modular balance beam set will strengthen coordination and collaborative play while building confidence in movement. Hopscotch gel floor tiles will provide visual stimulation while encouraging jumping and gross motor activity. A Jumparoo will offer “heavy work,” an important therapeutic strategy that helps students regulate sensory input and improve body awareness. A low-profile climbing wall will promote problem-solving, strength, and safe exploration of movement.
Together, these tools will create a multi-sensory therapeutic environment that helps students regulate their bodies, engage in learning, and build independence. With the Hermanowski Foundation’s support, The Victory Center will provide students with autism access to a dynamic space designed to strengthen both developmental outcomes and long-term quality of life.
If awarded we would like to offer a naming opportunity for our sensory room as The Hermanowski Foundation Sensory Room.
