Bridge Builders
Project Description:

The STEM Bridge Builders Summer Camp is an 8-week educational program designed to engage 30 students ages 10–14 in hands-on STEM learning, literacy enrichment, and career exploration. The camp will operate Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing structured academic instruction and experiential learning opportunities that help prevent summer learning loss while building foundational STEM and workforce skills.
The program integrates three hours of daily academic instruction focused on STEM concepts and summer reading to strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, and problem-solving skills. Students will participate in project-based learning activities including bridge design and construction, robotics, coding, and basic circuitry experiments. Through these activities, students learn engineering principles, design thinking, and teamwork while applying math and science concepts in real-world scenarios.

A key component of the program is career exploration through pre-apprenticeship exposure to skilled trades. Licensed professionals in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and air-conditioning will lead demonstrations and interactive sessions to introduce students to practical applications of STEM in construction and technical careers. These sessions help students understand how academic knowledge connects to high-demand workforce pathways.

The program will also include educational field trips that provide real-world exposure to STEM environments such as engineering sites, trade training centers, or science-focused institutions. These experiences reinforce classroom learning and broaden students’ understanding of career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and skilled trades.

Students will document their learning through engineering journals and collaborate in teams to design and build model bridges using low-cost materials. At the end of the program, participants will present their projects during a Parent and Community STEM Showcase.

Through this comprehensive approach, the program strengthens academic engagement, expands STEM access, and introduces youth to future education and career pathways.

Total Project Budget: $18,500

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): BSO LETF – Committed, Dollar General Literacy – Committed & Potential (pending 2nd grant award), Burns & McDonnell Foundation – Potential, Memorial Healthcare System (Potential), Children Services Council (Potential), Community Foundation of Broward (Potential)

Project Duration: 1 year (planning 6 months, 3 implementation, 3 months summer camp)
Geographical Area Served: Tri-County (Broward, Miami-Dade, & Palm Beach)
Age Group To Be Served: K – 8th grade (6 – 14 years old)

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Ms.
Contact First Name: Evangeline
Contact Last Name: Richardson
Contact Title: Grant Writer Director
Contact Phone: 954-964-2901 / 305-527-3193
Contact Email: kwc.grantwriters@gmail.com

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Koinonia Worship Center & Village / Mimi’s Learning Center Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: Mailing Address: 4900 W Hallandale Beach Blvd City: Pembroke Park State: FL Postal Code: 33023 Main Phone: 954-964-2901 Main Fax: Organization Website: www.kwcfl.org Employer ID Number: 59-2229918 Organization Tax Status: Tax-Exempt […]

[3

post-9904","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-grants
["GET
