Hosted in Fulton County, the event brings together Atlanta CASA staff, volunteers, community partners, and donors to provide critical resources to the children served by the organization’s Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Through the Gear Up event, Atlanta CASA distributes backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies such as notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, calculators, and other classroom necessities. Each child also receives hygiene and wellness items, including personal care products that help promote health, dignity, and self-confidence as they return to school. These resources are especially important for children in foster care, many of whom experience frequent transitions and may lack consistent access to basic educational supplies.

In addition to distributing supplies, the event connects foster children, caregivers, and CASA volunteers with supportive community resources. Local organizations and partners often participate by providing information on educational support services, health and wellness resources, and other programs that benefit youth and families involved in the child welfare system.

The Back-to-School Gear Up Event supports Atlanta CASA’s broader mission of advocating for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. By ensuring these youth have the supplies and encouragement they need to succeed in school, the program helps promote educational stability, improve school readiness, and reinforce the message that their community cares about their success.

Each year, the event serves hundreds of children across Fulton County and is made possible through the generous support of foundations, corporate partners, community organizations, and volunteers committed to improving outcomes for children in foster care.

Total Project Budget: 25,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Committed and Potential Support – Back to School Gear Up Program (FY 2026-2027) Funder / Source Amount Status Wells Fargo/Thomas H.
