It serves 30 K–8 students—many of whom have experienced trauma and challenging backgrounds—through novel studies, targeted instruction, and enrichment activities that build literacy skills, support social‑emotional growth, and provide a safe, structured environment each summer.

Children arrive at the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford with significant academic and emotional needs. Many have faced instability, neglect, or family disruption, which often leads to interrupted schooling and lower confidence in the classroom. Summer break can widen these gaps even further, making additional support essential for long‑term academic progress.

Our project counteracts this by offering a focused and engaging learning experience that keeps students intellectually active during the months when they are most at risk for setbacks. Daily lessons reinforce essential reading skills, while group discussions and hands‑on projects help students connect with the material in meaningful, enjoyable ways. This integrated approach strengthens comprehension, encourages curiosity, and helps students build a positive identity as learners.

Total Project Budget: $3,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Granville County United Way

Project Duration: June 1, 2027 – July 31, 2027
Geographical Area Served: Oxford, North Carolina
Age Group To Be Served: K to 8 yrs

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Ms.
Contact First Name: Gabriella
Contact Last Name: Wheat
Contact Title: PQI/Grant Coordinator
Contact Phone: (217) 791-1200
Contact Email: gwheat@mhc-oxford.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, Inc.
