Project Title: Wraparound Supports for Rural Students in Northern Dauphin County
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Communities In Schools of Pennsylvania (CISPA) requests $10,000 to support wraparound, school-based services for middle school students at Upper Dauphin Area Middle School in rural Dauphin County.<\/p>\n
Upper Dauphin serves a geographically isolated community where families face limited access to healthcare, mental health services, transportation, and other critical resources. Many students experience economic hardship and barriers that directly impact school attendance, academic performance, and emotional well-being.<\/p>\n
CISPA places a dedicated Site Coordinator inside the school to deliver Integrated Student Supports tailored to the unique needs of this rural population. Through ongoing data review and collaboration with school staff, the Site Coordinator identifies students at risk of chronic absenteeism, academic decline, or behavioral challenges and implements targeted interventions.<\/p>\n
Funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will support small-group mentoring focused on resilience and peer connection, individualized student success planning, attendance intervention and family outreach, and coordination of basic needs such as clothing, hygiene items, and referrals to community services. These supports remove immediate barriers to learning and help students remain engaged during a critical developmental stage.<\/p>\n
By stabilizing attendance, strengthening school connection, and addressing nonacademic barriers, CISPA helps rural middle school students stay on track academically and socially. Nationally, over 95% of students receiving intensive supports through Communities In Schools remain in school and advance to the next grade.<\/p>\n
This investment will directly benefit youth ages 11\u201314 and ensure that rural students in Upper Dauphin have consistent, caring adult support and the resources needed to succeed in school and beyond.<\/p>\n
