This request is for support of Sweet Dream Makers\u2019 A Bed of My Own program, which provides children and parents in need with safe, clean beds at no cost to the family. <\/p>\n
SDM fulfills the immediate need for families lacking the basic necessities of home, as determined through a careful vetting of referrals in consultation with area case managers at 50+ partner social service agencies. These community partners identify families in need – the majority of whom have at least one working caregiver – and SDM responds case by case with beds, furniture, and houseware solutions tailored to each family\u2019s needs. Leveraging relationships with area furniture companies and low-cost suppliers, SDM sources the best fit for each family\u2019s needs. We ensure that each recipient is provided with: new mattress, mattress encasement to protect against bed bugs and bed-wetting, box spring, bed frame, bedding including sheets, comforter, and pillows chosen by the children.<\/p>\n
For children and teens, inadequate sleep leads to health and education issues with potentially devastating long-term consequences. Students who are not well-rested struggle academically, emotionally, and socially. Lack of childhood sleep greatly increases the risk for obesity, diabetes, and mental health challenges. These hurdles drastically limit the potential for well-being and success for the most vulnerable members of our community – but these risks can be significantly reduced by providing children and families with safe, clean, and appropriate beds.<\/p>\n
Today, SDM provides 175-300 beds per month to children and families in need. We are the only local nonprofit focused specifically on beds, bedding, and essential furniture as a critical component of safety, security, and personal dignity for families and children in need. To date we have proudly provided 7,500+ beds to 3,500+ families and provide more than 300 families with other essential furniture ever year.\n<\/p>\n

\nSources For The Project (Committed & Potential): ): Funding for A Bed of My Own is entirely made up of individual donations, grants and foundation support, and event proceeds. In 2021 we are on track to raise approximately $513,950 in grants, $463,000 from events, $62,000 from individual contributions. <\/p>\n
Project Duration: A Bed of My Own is an ongoing program. The requested funds will support the 2021 program.
