The program serves children diagnosed with birth trauma, traumatic brain injury, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, Down syndrome, and other brain-related conditions resulting in developmental delays.

The program is grounded in the principle of neuroplasticity—the understanding that the brain is a pliable organ capable of being trained or retrained to strengthen functions that were damaged or never fully developed. Through targeted, evidence-informed interventions, children are supported in building stronger neurological pathways that enhance physical, cognitive, and functional performance.

Participants attend rehabilitative sessions two days per week for eight weeks. Following a comprehensive initial evaluation, each child receives an individualized service plan tailored to their specific strengths and challenges. Services may include neurodevelopmental exercises, vestibular stimulation, perceptual and cognitive training, educational kinesiology, and aquatic wellness therapy. This integrated approach addresses the whole child—brain and body working together.

By the conclusion of the program, children are expected to demonstrate measurable improvement in upper and lower body strength, balance, coordination, focus, concentration, and overall neurological organization. These foundational skills are critical to improving academic readiness, independence, and age-appropriate functioning.

For 54 years, the Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development has provided specialized services to children and adults with brain injuries. It remains the only organization in the surrounding region offering services anchored in neurodevelopmental theory. With limited therapeutic resources available for children with brain-based developmental challenges, the Brain & Body Integration Program fills a critical service gap.

Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their highest potential. This program provides structured support and specialized care necessary to help them do so.

Total Project Budget: $60,440

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Committed funders include Harry & Margaret Moore Foundation, Advocates for Kids, Fred & Alice Wallace Foundation, Elsa Heisel Sule Foundation , First Bank Richmond Community Foundation. Potential funders include Hermanowski Family Foundation CPPS Heritage Mission Fund, and Elyria Charities.

Project Duration: November 1, 2026 – October 31, 2027
Geographical Area Served: The 8-week program is designed to serve children that are 1 year to 17 years old and are experiencing developmental delays associated with such conditions as autism, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injuries, birth trauma, and other brain injuries. Over the course of a year, the project serves approximately forty children. Clients enrolling in the program reside in Miami, Montgomery, Shelby, Darke and other surrounding Ohio counties. The focus of the project is to help each child realize their maximum potential and strive to function at their age-appropriate level. The program shall target those families that have limited financial resources and may otherwise not be able to take advantage of the services offered through the Center.
Age Group To Be Served: 1 year to 17 years old

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mrs
Contact First Name: Brenda
Contact Last Name: Scott
Contact Title: Special Projects Director
Contact Phone: 937-773-7630
Contact Email: specialprojects@rcnd.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: Mailing Address: 1306 Garbry Rd City: Piqua State: OH Postal Code: 45356 Main Phone: 937-773-7630 Main Fax: 937-778-2561 Organization Website: https://ww.rcnd.org Employer ID Number: 23-7202001 Organization Tax Status: 501(c)(3) Proposal Information Today’s Date: February 17, […]

[3

post-9100","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-grants
["GET
