Project Title: Creating a Legacy of Improved Mental Health in Girls

At The Oberle Academy, we have identified a critical need for expanded mental health support for our female students. Adolescence is one of the most formative periods of our lives. These years are a time of growth and change. They can also come with challenges and pressures that can impact mental health. We will not only offer a service; we will build a supportive ecosystem where girls can discover their own power to manage stress, build resilience, and cultivate self-esteem.
\nWe propose a program designed to address the urgent youth mental crisis within our schools. It is estimated that over 50% of our female students experience high levels of anxiety. In partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) program \u201cEnding the Silence\u201d, we will offer a three-pronged approach. We will assign a current staff member to provide essential support in developing emotional regulation and healthy coping strategies for the girls, and to empower school staff with de-escalation techniques and everyday mental health vocabulary, thereby reducing classroom disruptions and improving the learning experience. They will be paid a stipend for this position. Secondly, we will strengthen the home-school connection by educating parents, hosting workshops, and providing mental health resources. In this way, we can build a cohesive support system that extends beyond the school day. Thirdly, we will provide students with targeted opportunities, such as workshops, field trips, and real-world experiences, so that as their confidence grows, so does their capacity for leadership and economic independence. We see this as the inevitable result of a cultivated mindset. This confidence ripples out from the individual to her family and community, breaking cycles of poverty and struggles for generations to come.
\nExpected outcomes include fewer behavioral referrals for classroom disruptions, increased emotional resilience, improved emotion regulation through coping skills, and reduced absenteeism. <\/p>\n
