We offer trauma informed counseling sessions where a trained clinician partners with a certified therapy animal to help children feel safe, regulated, and engaged in the therapeutic process. Our approach is especially supportive for children experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, behavioral challenges, and the effects of trauma including homelessness, family disruption, and exposure to substance use or violence.

In each session, the therapy animal helps reduce stress responses, build trust, and increase communication, allowing children to express feelings that may be difficult to put into words. Services include individual counseling, family sessions, and group based skill building that strengthens coping strategies, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, and resilience. Activities may include guided interaction with the therapy animal, structured therapeutic games, mindfulness exercises, and social emotional learning tasks tailored to the child’s developmental level.

The project expands access for children who face barriers to care by providing services at no cost through community partnerships and outreach locations. Healing Hearts Pet Therapy also educates caregivers and community partners on the benefits of animal assisted counseling and practical strategies to support children’s emotional well being at home and in school.

Our mission is to promote healing, hope, and recovery through the power of the human animal bond. We provide compassionate animal assisted therapy to support mental health and emotional well being, while educating communities about the benefits of this vital connection.

Total Project Budget: 219600

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): UNICO Foundation Inc, Wanda and James M Moran Jr Foundation Inc, Animal Support Kindness and Kinship Inc, The Loreen Beisswenger Farish Charitable Foundation, 1fur1, Hermanowski Foundation, Human Animal Alliance, Jim Moran, Henry W.
