Advocates build a trusting relationship with the child, conduct an independent assessment of their circumstances, and provide judges with critical information and recommendations focused solely on the child’s best interests.

Henrico CASA’s project will provide five children with a dedicated Advocate who will visit the child and submit court recommendations on their behalf for an entire year. The project goal is to mitigate the long-term impact of trauma while improving outcomes in education, permanency, and overall well-being. Your support will ultimately change the trajectory of these children’s lives.

Henrico County consistently leads Central Virginia in child abuse and neglect referrals and demand for CASA’s services has risen by 8–9% annually, underscoring the urgent need for effective intervention. Despite increases, Henrico CASA has served 100% of children referred since our inception in 1994. Last year, alone, we served 399 children. Our Advocates attended 453 court hearings and submitted 461 written reports, with 98% of CASA recommendations adopted by judges. Notably, 100% of cases closed with children in safe, long-term homes.

Henrico CASA delivers this impact through a highly cost-effective model. By recruiting, training, and supervising volunteer Advocates, CASA serves a child for approximately $1,500/year, a fraction of the cost of foster care or juvenile justice involvement.

Your support will ensure that five children receive the advocacy, stability, and voice they deserve at no cost to their families and at a pivotal moment in their lives.

Total Project Budget: $956,800

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): At Henrico CASA, we believe that access to high-quality advocacy should never depend on a family’s ability to pay. For this reason, CASA services are provided at no cost to the children and families we serve. We take our responsibility as stewards of community and foundation resources seriously. The funding sources below, as well as other funding from individual contributors and special events, are consistent from year to year and therefore projected to be similar for our July 2026-June 2027 fiscal year. As we await responses to our pending requests and continue to cultivate new partnerships, we remain steadfast in our dedication to ensuring that no child in our community is left without the advocacy support they deserve. Henrico CASA’s reach spans more than 25 zip codes across urban, suburban, and rural communities in Virginia, reflecting the broad geographic and demographic scope of the need for advocacy services.
Age Group To Be Served: Henrico CASA serves children from birth through age 18 who have experienced significant adverse childhood experiences and are involved in abuse and neglect proceedings before the Court. These children often enter the child welfare system having already endured profound trauma that affects their safety, development, and long-term wellbeing. CASA’s intervention provides consistent, child-centered advocacy during this critical period, helping to mitigate the long-term negative outcomes commonly associated with unaddressed childhood trauma.

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mrs.
Contact First Name: Kristin
Contact Last Name: Blalock
Contact Title: Director of Partnerships
Contact Phone: 804-245-1469
Contact Email: Kristin@HenricoCASA.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Henrico County Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc.
