PS\/IS 187 Hudson Cliffs Parents Organization seeks a partnership with the Hermanowski Foundation to support the educational experience of the 750 students who attend PS\/IS 187 Hudson Cliffs, a Pre-K through 8th-grade public school in Washington Heights. Our school serves a diverse community and is recognized for strong academics, dedicated teachers, engaged parents, and an inclusive culture grounded in equity, creativity, and engagement.<\/p>\n
Students benefit from a rigorous academic foundation in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies, complemented by music, film, visual arts, and physical education. Teaching across disciplines emphasizes inquiry, collaboration, and real-world connections, helping students build confidence, critical thinking skills, and readiness for middle school and beyond.<\/p>\n
Beyond the classroom, PS\/IS 187 is known for imaginative arts programming that reaches all grade levels. Students participate in visual art, music instruction, instrumental performance, theater, filmmaking, and creative writing. These programs culminate in performances, exhibitions, and screenings that bring the school community together and provide authentic platforms for student voice. Through the arts, students take creative risks, collaborate with peers, and learn to express complex ideas.<\/p>\n
Hands-on science and experiential learning are equally central to the PS\/IS 187 experience. A thriving school garden serves as a living classroom where students explore environmental science, nutrition, sustainability, and food systems in an urban setting.<\/p>\n
After-school programming is a critical extension of this work. High-quality after-school opportunities allow students to deepen academic skills, explore interests in STEM, arts, music, theater, and sports, and build strong relationships with peers and mentors in a safe, structured environment, while providing stability for working families.<\/p>\n
Equity is at the heart of our mission. A general operating grant would help sustain this ecosystem of learning and ensure all students have access to enriching opportunities.\n<\/p>\n
