Project Title: Empowering Students: A Special Education Toolkit
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Champions for Kids will develop and distribute Empowering Students: A Special Education Advocate Toolkit + Parent Navigation App, a practical resource designed to support children and young adults with disabilities from birth through age 21. The project equips parents, caregivers, and emerging advocates with clear, actionable guidance to navigate the special education process and ensure students receive timely, appropriate services.<\/p>\n
The project includes two integrated components. The Special Education Advocate Toolkit will be available in digital and printable formats and written in plain language. It will outline the special education process, parent and student rights under federal law, key timelines and checklists, sample request letters and scripts, documentation templates, and guidance on inclusive practices and early literacy supports. Materials will be culturally responsive and accessible, with translation and readability considerations built in.<\/p>\n
The Parent Navigation Mobile App will serve as a \u201cGPS for special education,\u201d guiding families through a complex maze to get support for their children. <\/p>\n
Together, the toolkit and app help families apply information in real time\u2014during meetings and critical decision points\u2014reducing delays and strengthening family-school partnerships.<\/p>\n
