Project Title: Investing in Youth with a Zero Chance to Achieve Swim Literacy
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
This project called Water Babies is a source of good health and education practices, cradle to grave, but focuses on infants. Specifically, it will target newborns at the hospital before they leave to educate their families on the importance of water activities with take home materials. Financial assistance information will be included in the materials also. Water Babies lessons are important for developing early swimming skills, physical and cognitive developmental, improve memory capacity, builds confidence, strengthen parent and child bonds, etc. In essence,, Water Babies lessons offer a holistic approach to a child’s development, combining water safety, physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being. Research has also shown that a child put in water at an early age can be 20 months advanced for reading readiness and have advanced math skills in junior high (Griffith University of Queensland). Also, 11 months ahead in oral expression; 17 months ahead in story recall and 20 months ahead for understanding directions.<\/p>\n
Our program educates all, but 100% of the money is used to pay for lessons and most benefit from 2 sessions of lesson per year from 6 months to 2 years of age.<\/p>\n
We target children on the spectrum and work with the Head Start programs in our areas of service. Reaching the families at birth is vital to start to break the cycle of 50% of the families that have parents and grandparents that never learned to swim. We serve cradle to grave, but this program will target new births only.<\/p>\n
One session costs $95 and we want to try and get 6 sessions in before the child would be able to do group lessons the would advance their swimming skills for prevention of drowning and promote physical growth and wellness for life.<\/p>\n
The Foundation is all pro bono with no office or administrative costs led by retired teachers in their 70s\/80s. <\/p>\n
