Our Mentoring Empowers project will provide needed academic enrichment and mentoring services to over 500 low-income students in the academic middle in FY2020. While there are many programs that support youth from low-income backgrounds with the highest grades or those with the lowest, there are far fewer supporting students in the academic middle on the cusp of college eligibility. CPE provides these students with a comprehensive youth development curriculum through the facilitation of long-term one-to-one mentoring relationships, individualized staff support, and career preparation and workforce development opportunities.

According to the Kids Count Data center, 26% of DC youth live in poverty (Annie E. Casey Foundation). In addition to coming from low-income families, these students are often the first in their family to attend college. Currently, 80% of CPE students are first-generation to college, 99% are students of color, and 100% are from low-income households. In many cases, they do not have the knowledge, guidance, or resources to access college and graduate with the skills necessary to thrive in the workforce. Without a college degree, low-income students struggle to access high-wage, high-growth jobs and break cycles of poverty. In our work to help low-income DC families break multi-generational cycles of poverty, our goal is to ensure all of our students 1) obtain a Bachelor’s degree, and 2) build a concrete set of work readiness skills, experiences, and networks necessary to thrive in successful careers. We are growing our program each year, so that by 2021 we will serve 650 students annually.

Total Project Budget: $141,240

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): The Economic Club of Washington DC $50,000 (received); The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation $50,000 (received); The Harman Family Foundation $30,000 (received);

Project Duration: 12 months
Geographical Area Served: Washington, DC Metropolitan Area
Age Group To Be Served: 15 – 25

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mr.
Contact First Name: Jonathan
Contact Last Name: Tucker
Contact Title: Grants Manager
Contact Phone: 202.682.6020
Contact Email: grants@cpfe.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Capital Partners for Education Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: CPE Mailing Address: 1413 K Street NW, Third Floor City: Washington State: DC Postal Code: 20005 Main Phone: 202.682.6020 Main Fax: Organization Website: www.cpfe.org Employer ID Number: 52-1832497 Organization Tax Status: 501(c)(3) Proposal Information Today’s Date: […]

[3

post-809","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-grants
["GET
