Project Title: Recreation Facility Art Classroom Refinishing

Youth safely engage in creative expression, applying the coping skills they learned at Missouri Girls Town within a structured group therapy environment at the Scallorns Recreation Center. Missouri Girls Town is requesting funds to refinish the art classroom as well as bring it up to modern fire safety code standards. The facility was built in the 1990’s and is now needing refinishing to ensure this asset can continue to be available to traumatized youth who seek refuge and healing at our trauma informed residential treatment facility. <\/p>\n
Funds for this project will allow us to repair walls and hang commercial fire safe doors in the arts and crafts classroom. This space is not only used by trauma specialized therapists, but is also used by licensed teachers who utilize our facility to provide instruction to youth at our accredited facility. This space is essential to the healing of youth in Missouri’s foster care system who have typically been through nine failed foster care placements before arriving at Missouri Girls Town. Our program utilizes DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) as well as TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention) to give youth skills to live a successful life despite their traumatic upbringing. Art therapy has many benefits but ones that the Hermanowski Family Foundation should know about are that it helps individuals express and process difficult emotions stemming from grief, trauma, and anxiety as well as provides a safe and non-judgmental space for self exploration and managing of emotions.<\/p>\n
