Project Title: Core Support for NAS Infants
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Maddie\u2019s Place provides expert, trauma-informed care for infants up to 12 months old who have been exposed to substances in utero and are experiencing Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Our approach centers on non-pharmacologic, evidence-based treatment in a nurturing, homelike environment\u2014one designed to promote healing, bonding, and long-term development.<\/p>\n
Our model recognizes that healing doesn\u2019t happen in isolation. A core component of our care is the parent-infant dyad\u2014because we believe moms are their baby\u2019s best medicine, and babies are often the best medicine for a mom in recovery. We provide free room and board, peer support, and wraparound services to parents and caregivers, helping families stabilize, reconnect, and prepare for life after discharge.<\/p>\n
Since opening in 2022, Maddie\u2019s Place has served 108 infants and 63 parents onsite with many more caregivers receiving case management support. A grant from the Hermanowski Foundation would directly fund our infant care operations, ensuring that every baby receives the soothing, attentive care they need to thrive.<\/p>\n
Maddie\u2019s Place represents an innovative, cost-effective model of care that has the potential to be replicated in communities across the country\u2014especially as rates of opioid use and NAS continue to rise. Compared to traditional hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Units, Maddie\u2019s Place delivers specialized infant care at 75\u201380% lower cost, while achieving positive outcomes in a calm, developmentally supportive setting.<\/p>\n
Recent research confirms that family-centered care and early supportive interventions for opioid-exposed infants improve developmental outcomes and reduce hospital stays (Frontiers in Pediatrics, 2022). Your support would help Maddie\u2019s Place continue giving vulnerable newborns the strongest, healthiest start in life.<\/p>\n
