According to Americans for the Arts, 70% of adults agree that the arts help children to perform better academically. A recent study completed by the National Endowment for the Arts concluded that children with access to the arts are five times less likely to drop out of school. Our belief is simple–Arts education is a right, not a privilege. It should be accessible to every child, regardless of socio-economic background. We are committed to creating an educational environment where arts integration (mixing math, science, language arts, and social studies with artistic disciplines) serves as a powerful catalyst, unlocking students’ academic, creative, and personal potential. Through our Creative Schools program, we partner with 100 classroom teachers across 14 schools in New Orleans, reaching nearly 3,500 local K-8 public school students. Resident teaching artists co-plan and co-teach arts-integrated lessons with classroom teachers to increase student engagement and enhance learning. For example, students might learn about the plant life cycle through theater or learn about the civil rights movement by creating comics. Due to lack of funding, fewer K-8 students in New Orleans are enrolled in school-based arts enrichment courses. This is why we need your help. Together, we can partner with more schools and empower underserved children, giving them the transformative, arts-infused education they deserve.

Total Project Budget: $522,103

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Lambent Foundation: $138,068 committed; MaggieGeorge Foundation: $50,000 committed; Booth-Bricker Fund: $25,000 committed; GPOA Foundation: $20,000 committed; New Orleans Theater Association: $20,000 committed; Oscar J.
