\u201cI work for you.\u201d That is what the CASA Advocate told Darren the first time they met. The boy had already been introduced to a string of new people and was anxious. The CASA wanted to reassure him that he was not one of many on her caseload \u2013 he was the only one on it. All her work would be for his sake. When she talked to him, it was to get to know him and find out what he needed. When she talked to his family, foster parents, and school \u2013 it was on his behalf. She was going to take everything she learned and be Darren\u2019s voice in court to help ensure that he was safe and healthy, and that he would spend as little time in foster care as possible. <\/p>\n
There is no one-size-fits-all solution for children in foster care. Each child is unique, and so are their circumstances. That\u2019s why Darren needs a CASA Advocate \u2013 someone to stand by his side and ensure that all the things he needs to heal and thrive are provided. The CASA becomes the eyes, ears, and heart of the court for Darren. With a CASA report in hand, the judge has a much clearer picture of Darren and can make better decisions about his future.<\/p>\n
The need for CASA Advocates is plainly evident in the research: kids with CASAs receive more medical and emotional support, do better in school, and find safe, permanent homes faster. Research also shows that kids with CASAs are more hopeful. And when kids have hope, outcomes improve. They have more academic success, enhanced well-being, increased self-control, positive social relationships, and optimism \u2013 tools they need to heal and recover. <\/p>\n
No other organization provides this service and we do not charge fees. <\/p>\n

\nSources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Examples of potential grant funding for FY 2026 include DCJS (Department of Criminal Justice Services), Albemarle County, City of Charlottesville, the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, Bama Works Fund, J&E Berkley Foundation, Manning Foundation, and the E. C. Wareheim Foundation. In a typical year, individual donations comprise approximately 40% of our annual income, and events contribute another 4%.<\/p>\n
