\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Our mission is to end social isolation for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by creating opportunities for friendship between students with and without IDD at schools throughout Palm Beach. We also provide leadership trainings throughout the year that teach students with IDD the skills necessary to advocate for themselves and build more inclusive communities. Our program educates the general education students about the many abilities of their peers with IDD and fosters the growth of mutually enriching one-to-one friendships. Through our leadership trainings, we help students with and without IDD become advocates for social change and leaders of the disability movement. As a result of their participation in Best Buddies, students with disabilities learn new social, academic, employment and life skills while expanding friendships and activities with their general education peers. General education students increase their disability awareness, enhance their personal growth and develop citizenship skills. <\/p>\n
