Project Title: Veterans Mentoring Youth Through Character Does Matter

Travis Manion Foundation\u2019s leading program trains military veterans and surviving family members to serve as mentors of character and leadership to youth nationwide. Since 2010, this program, called Character Does Matter (CDM), has leveraged the skills of our nation\u2019s military community as role models. Individuals involved with CDM are empowered to improve their well-being by finding purpose in their lives, developing meaningful relationships, and fully engaging in activities. Offered via both short-form presentations and multi-session engagements, Character Does Matter equips youth with the education and resources needed to identify and cultivate their own character strengths to make a meaningful difference in their communities.<\/p>\n
At the start of the Character Does Matter program, Veteran Mentors are trained by TMF staff members to deliver 40-minute character education presentations to students. These
\npresentations make up the short-form version of the CDM program and include examples of character including stories of veterans’ experiences, highlighting the 24 Values in Action character strengths such as Honesty, Gratitude, Curiosity and Love of Learning among others. CDM presentations foster understanding of social emotional well-being and introduce students to the concepts of character and leadership. (186 characters)\n<\/p>\n
