Project Title: MCM’s Very Important Potential (VIP) Program – Specifically Programs for Children with Autism
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
The Very Important Potential (VIP) Program at Miami Children’s Museum (MCM) makes the Museum’s interactive educational exhibits and arts-based programs accessible to 42,000 children and their families annually. Our VIP Program provides access to low-income and at-risk youth to help them achieve their highest potential through FREE and discounted:
\n\u2022\tAdmission for City of Miami residents is discounted 50%, recognizing Miami’s rank as 4th largest percentage of low income residents in US.
\n\u2022\tAfter-school programs daily throughout the year onsite and in two elementary schools in Miami\u2019s inner city neighborhoods.
\n\u2022\tCamp Scholarships to MCM’s Camps which immerse children in various global cultures.
\n\u2022\tEducational Exploration Field Trips and Tours aligned with Common Core State Standards and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools\u2019 Competency-Based Curriculum.
\n\u2022\tHead Start Programming for preschool students from underserved areas to visit MCM once per week for 6 weeks for arts and music-enrichment programming and receive an outreach by MCM staff in their classrooms.
\n\u2022\tMonthly and Annual Events and Programming such as monthly Free Third Fridays when MCM is open to the community until 8 pm.
\n\u2022\tSensory Saturdays and Programs for Children with Special Needs provide monthly programs, field trips and in-school outreaches. <\/p>\n
The VIP program is designed to: (1) increase alliances with families, educators and community organizations in order to meet the developmental and school-readiness needs of all children; (2) provide educational arts-infused experiences beyond traditional classroom setting; (3) promote health, wellness and fitness; (4) promote positive child development and educational advancement; and (5) increase opportunities for multicultural enrichment and creative expression. <\/p>\n
This grant will support programming for children with special needs and sensory processing disorders including Autism Awareness Month programming, in-school arts outreaches and internships for young adults with autism.<\/p>\n
