We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that assists all student loan borrowers by providing several student loan legal services. Unfortunately the cost of higher education has doubled within the past decade resulting in a student loan debt burden exceeding an astronomical $1.4 trillion dollars. Due to this debt burden, the dismal job market and economy, and the extremely incompetent student loan servicing, 1 in 4 of the over 40 million student loan borrowers across the nation are delinquent or are in default on his or her student loan payments. This is alarming! Moreover, there are significant issues adversely affecting specific groups of student loan borrowers such as military members, veterans and their families, and elders who are not receiving adequate information and servicing. Also, in light of the student loan debt epidemic, unfortunately there are several unregulated scam \u201cdebt relief\u201d companies that are now in existence. The strong majority of these private companies prey on low income student loan borrowers and\/or those in financial distress by charging exorbitant fees while providing inadequate services. Finally, many borrowers who are current with their student loan payments are struggling and\/or are completely unaware of all of their economic and legal options to alleviate their debt burden.<\/p>\n
SLLA was created with a twofold mission and objective: 1) We are committed to reducing the significant number of student loan borrowers who are delinquent, in default, and\/or are current but struggling to pay his or her loans, and 2) We are committed to reducing the number of student loan borrowers who fall victim to the aforementioned predatory scam \u201cdebt relief\u201d companies by providing the critical education and legal assistance that these companies fail to provide. Accomplishing our mission will improve the national deficit and local economies by favorably affecting the long term growth at the micro and macro levels for families, children, military members, veterans, the elderly, and the public at large.<\/p>\n
