Project Title: Therapy Dogs for Children\\’s Programs
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Our exceptional therapy dogs continue to be in high demand. Thanks to funding from the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Foundation last year we were able to deploy additional therapy dog teams to work with several schools, hospitals and special needs facilities.<\/p>\n
This year we would like to continue our work with children as well as add some more teams to meet the ever growing waiting list for our services.<\/p>\n
The therapy dog project for which we are requesting funds will make a difference in the lives of children by providing many health benefits and life improvements. <\/p>\n
Recruitment materials will be developed to use at community outreach events. Partnerships will be made with local veterinarians, groomers and dog training facilities. Seminars and trainings will be held to better educate our volunteers on how to work with diverse populations and the appropriate interactions based on the population being served. Toolkits will be developed and provided to the volunteer teams working with special needs populations. Additional dogs will be obedience trained and evaluated for temperament and personality. Volunteer coordination and management will track vaccination requirements, insurance needs and monthly facility hours. All dogs passing the therapy certification will be insured with a general liability policy.<\/p>\n
