Project Title: Workforce Ready Southwest Virginia
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
We are humbly requesting $10,000 from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation to support the "Workforce Ready Southwest Virginia" project. This program is designed to address the needs of economically disadvantaged children in Western Virginia, particularly in the Roanoke Valley, by providing critical skills and education to help them overcome barriers and achieve their dreams.<\/p>\n
The "Workforce Ready Southwest Virginia" project aims to reach 4,000 students during the upcoming school year with targeted programs focused on financial literacy and workforce readiness. Through hands-on, experiential learning, students will gain the tools they need to succeed academically and professionally, while understanding the long-term impact of informed decision-making.<\/p>\n
Key components of the project include:
\n\u2022\tFinancial Literacy Programming: Utilizing our K-12 financial literacy programming, students learn how money moves through our community, how to make informed financial decisions, as well as budgeting, savings, and how the stock market works, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty.
\n\u2022\tWorkforce Readiness: Through programming such as Polite Pathways soft skills curriculum, students will be equipped for their futures by practicing communication, teamwork, and critical thinking, skills as well as proper professional etiquette, to prepare them for meaningful employment opportunities.
\n\u2022\tEntrepreneurship Education: Through experiential learning opportunities such as our Career Success at Radford University, students are encouraged to be innovative and have entrepreneurial thinking, enabling them to envision and pursue their own business ventures.
\n\u2022\tJA at Kids Square: By integrating JA\u2019s award-winning Our City financial literacy program into Kids Square\u2019s Tiny Town, elementary students across Southwest Virginia can actively engage with foundational economic principles in a dynamic, interactive environment.<\/p>\n
A critical component of this initiative is addressing the information gap that often limits young people from reaching their full potential. Many students in our region face systemic barriers and lack access to the knowledge and resources needed to achieve economic stability. By implementing our programming throughout local schools, we aim to empower students from all areas of our region with the tools necessary to break out of generational poverty, a persistent challenge in our area.\n<\/p>\n
