Project Title: Bridge Program
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
At this time, we are looking to develop our mental health support and mindfulness program that we offer to \u201cBridge\u201d students; this is why we are seeking funding from your Foundation. The grant would be used to bring in social workers and mindfulness practitioners who are trained in or have life experience working with marginalized populations and low-income students. The funding would also provide some professional development for our faculty in these same areas so that we could continue this work in an on-going fashion.<\/p>\n
Adolescents right now have higher levels of anxiety and depression than ever before. Our program provides a respite from many of the stressful factors of high school life. We take the students\u2019 phones and turn off the internet (there is no cell service on campus) and help them to connect in person to each other and this place. We work hard to connect our low income and first-generation students to networks and resources that will support them here as well as when they leave this campus. The funds we are requesting would support us in these efforts and help us to teach students techniques that will improve their mental health long after their time at the Mountain School. We evaluate all of our programs through anonymous and in person feedback sessions. We ask participants to complete surveys, take part in exit interviews and then join focus groups in the years afterwards to report on impact and outcomes. This is a regular part of our work with our alumni and helps us to evaluate how our program is affecting students\u2019 lives and then make adjustments.\n<\/p>\n
