ReadyKids (previously Children, Youth & Family Services) is a private non-profit organization working toward the vision that every child in the community is ready to learn, ready for relationships, and ultimately ready for life. For over 90 years, ReadyKids has provided critical support to children and families in Charlottesville and the five surrounding counties. Its programs help kids build life-long skills so that they have the chance to reach their full potential. Last year, ReadyKids programs impacted the lives of nearly 7,000 children, families and child care providers in Charlottesville and surrounding counties.<\/p>\n
ReadyKids\u2019 Victims of Child Abuse (VOCA) program provides no-cost counseling to help kids and families who have experienced trauma or abuse begin the healing process and create safer environments. Counseling is also available for children living in homes where domestic violence has taken place. Masters-level VOCA counselors help children cope with the trauma of abuse and move forward successfully. In addition to working directly with children, VOCA counselors support parents, foster parents, or primary caregivers to ensure that they understand and agree on ways to maintain their child\\’s safety; this reduces rates of re-victimization and increases positive outcomes for both the abused child and their family.<\/p>\n
ReadyKids is committed to measuring our effectiveness and long term impacts on the clients we serve. During FY2014 (July 1, 2013 \u2013 June 30, 2014) VOCA served a total of 127 primary victims of abuse and 157 parents and professionals were impacted through outreach. The goals for the VOCA program are as follows:<\/p>\n
\u2022\tKids become socially and emotionally healthy and relate well to others.
\n\u2022\tKids experience positive parent\/child and family interaction.
\n\u2022\tKids are not abused or neglected.\n<\/p>\n

Other Funding
\nSources For The Project (Committed & Potential): ReadyKids requests $10,000 to support the VOCA program. To enhance sustainability, ReadyKids continues to support VOCA programming with diverse funding streams that include a combination of federal, state and local government grants, private foundation grants, and individual contributions. Additional funding sources include: $75,000 from the Murlan Foundation; $54,944 VOCA Grant; $40,000 from the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Victims Fund; $5,000 from the L.E.A.W. Family Foundation; $7,147 in City of Charlottesville and county funds.<\/p>\n
