Project Title: Empowering Voices: SEL for Latina Girls Navigating New Beginnings

Genesee Valley is proud to continue its partnership with The Pa\u2019Lante Latinas group in providing vital social-emotional learning (SEL) programming for newcomer female Spanish-speaking students at Patterson High School. In its second year, this program aims to empower these young women by building critical SEL skills such as decision-making, self-regulation, peer relationships, stress management, coping strategies, mindfulness, and emotional awareness.<\/p>\n
During their time at Genesee Valley, participants engage in a full day of experiential learning. The morning is dedicated to team-building activities on our expansive 140-acre property, offering students the chance to work together, build trust, and strengthen their communication and collaboration skills. In the afternoon, students tackle individual challenges designed to promote personal growth, resilience, and self-confidence.<\/p>\n
Through a combination of psychoeducation, group discussions, hands-on activities, project-based learning, leadership development, and team-building exercises, students are offered a rich, supportive environment in which they can thrive. Our goal is to foster a strong sense of community, expand support networks, and equip participants with the tools they need to navigate challenges both inside and outside of the classroom.<\/p>\n
The primary challenges faced by the program include securing funding and addressing transportation barriers for students to participate in the programming. With continued support, we can ensure these young women have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.<\/p>\n
