Project Title: CISPA: Integrated Student Supports in the School District of the City of York
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Communities in Schools of Pennsylvania (CISPA)\u2019s mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Communities in Schools (CIS) is the nation\u2019s largest dropout prevention organization, bringing coordinated, integrated student services into public schools to meet the needs of at-risk students. CISPA, while working collaboratively at a statewide level, focuses our in-school programming in the central and southwestern regions of the state. CISPA’s first school-based programs were launched in 2014 in the School District of the City of York, and since that time, we have grown to serve 31 individual schools in 12 school districts. <\/p>\n
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States was already fighting an education crisis. According to a study published by the New York Times, about 16 percent of high school students do not graduate on time. Post COVID, the needs are greater than ever. The enduring impact of prolonged isolation and quarantine during the crisis has significantly influenced social determinants of health at every level. Unfortunately, these impacts are felt particularly hard in low-income and underserved communities, like York City. <\/p>\n
The Communities in Schools model of Integrated Student Supports (ISS) implements 3 tiers of services to students: Tier 1 (whole-school), Tier 2 (small group), and Tier 3 (intensive case management). While our services and programs change from year to year based on the needs of students and families, the process we follow to plan for each year is largely the same. Our approach is both evidence-based and data driven, and we pride ourselves on knowing that we are meeting real, actual needs of students, families, and communities in this district. Ultimately, our work prevents students from dropping out of school so that they can walk across the graduation stage and succeed in life.<\/p>\n

\nSources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Thus far, CISPA has secured funding from the York City School District, the Powder Mill Foundation, the Arthur J. And Lee R. Glatfelter Foundation, the Anne M. & Philip H. Glatfelter, III Family Foundation, the TE Connectivity Foundation, Wellspan Health, and the United Way of York County. Additionally, CISPA has received funding through PDE Trauma Informed Education Grant, and a Scaling Grant from CIS National to support growth in this area. The remainder of the funding to support our work in York County is made up through unrestricted individual\/corporate donations, foundation support, and other grant funding. <\/p>\n
