SPIRIT NYS’ mission is to empower homeless and housing-insecure teens by removing barriers to their education, with the goal of helping them graduate high school and develop essential life skills. Our organization is dedicated to supporting teens from low-income families experiencing homelessness, providing direct assistance to high school students who are facing housing instability.<\/p>\n
With this grant, we will offer critical resources and services to 55 students, up from 48 last year, that will enhance their quality of life and meet their urgent needs.
\nHomelessness among students often results in educational disruptions, affecting attendance and academic achievement. Our program focuses on providing essential support to homeless and housing-insecure high school students, ensuring they remain in school and thrive. This grant will be used to provide school supplies for each of our 55 students.
\nSPIRIT NYS\u2019 goal is to not only help these students graduate, but also to help them develop life skills to become successful in the next chapter of their lives whether that be attending college or entering the workforce.
\nMentorship is a key aspect of our program, helping students stay focused and feel supported. Many of these teens lack caregivers and our mentors provide critical guidance and empathy, fostering their success both academically and personally.
\n We will achieve these goals by working with the teachers, counselors, and school administrators to provide:
\n\u2022\tIndividual coaching, counseling and academic support
\n\u2022\tHygiene and personal care items to promote cleanliness and dignity
\n\u2022\tWarm clothing, including coats, jackets, boots and shoes to ensure comfort and safety during colder months
\n\u2022\tSchool supplies to help students stay prepared and succeed academically
\n\u2022\tSnacks and nutritional support for students and families facing food insecurity <\/p>\n
Our entire annual organizational budget is $143,633. Within that budget includes $5,068 for school supplies for the 55 students.\n<\/p>\n
