Rise Up for Kids brings nearly three decades of experience dedicated to empowering children and youth. Our commitment is realized through personalized mentoring, small group youth development initiatives, and a comprehensive after-school program.

The 2023 State of the Child in Tennessee Report underscores concerning realities facing our youth:

One in five children live in poverty.
Over 1000 youth experience homelessness.
More than 40% battle obesity, with physical activity declining by 15% over the past decade.
Tennessee ranks 15th in the U.S. for child abuse cases.
Mental health issues are prevalent, with over 20% of students contemplating suicide.
In Johnson City, these challenges are magnified, particularly among youth from under-resourced backgrounds. Limited access to positive role models and essential life skills often translates into lower academic performance and an ongoing struggle for sufficient support and resources.

At "The Refuge," we are dedicated to transforming these statistics into stories of resilience and hope. Through our facilities and programs, we provide a safe haven where children can flourish academically, emotionally, and socially. Our goal is to bridge gaps, nurture potential, and empower each child to thrive despite the odds they face. Join us in building a brighter future for Johnson City’s youth.

Total Project Budget: 590,950

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Top 5 Donors: Mooneyhan Family Foundation, Speedway Children’s Charities, Grace Fellowship Church, Cary Street, Gordon Bolton

Project Duration: 12 months – we operate year round
Geographical Area Served: Johnson City TN
Age Group To Be Served: elementary – high school aged children and youth (approx. 100-125 per year)

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mr.
Contact First Name: Michael
Contact Last Name: Marion
Contact Title: President
Contact Phone: (423) 610-1242
Contact Email: thementoringman@gmail.com

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Rise Up for Kids Legal Name (if Different): Rise Up Inc.
