Project Title: DAPI Academic Program
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
The DAPI Academic Program focuses on attending classes resembling a traditional school experience. The program is structured to take place during the academic and summer school years. Students who participate in the Academic Program earn credits towards their middle or high school grade requirements while also participating in college and career readiness activities. DAPI utilizes the Common-Core Curriculum with credentialed staff or instructors to lead the educational experience. DAPI has an Education Coordinator to provide educational leadership. The coordinator offers professional development to all teachers and instructors.
\nAdditional curriculum and instructional materials promote stronger engagement in core courses and aid in the reduction of dropout rates for teen mothers by providing creative engagement in the academic environment. Access to computers and high-speed internet are critical for our academic program to help students thrive in their skill building. <\/p>\n
Funding the Academic Program will help to provide the following enhancements:
\n\u00b7 Continued financial support to maintain the license for the assessment tool to continue gathering data on student progress at the beginning and end of the year.
\n\u00b7 Maintaining updates for technology to enhance the learning experience specifically in science & math.
\no Purchasing more students-used Chromebooks, & Schoology licenses for assignments, and assessments, and receiving grades from instructors in real time.
\n\u00b7 Student Trips \u2013 Students will be exposed to local colleges and occupations by taking students on college & career tours throughout the region.<\/p>\n
Target Population \u2013 Pregnant\/parenting teen girls ages 12-19, grades 6-12 that live in any of the three counties within the state of Delaware; students receive free or reduced lunch; 100% have experienced some of the trauma of teen pregnancy along with abuse, homelessness, substance abuse and\/or mental health challenges; 65% are expected to become the first high school diploma recipient in their families.<\/p>\n
