The Equity in STEAM Initiative, now in its fourth year, has established crucial connections and a dedicated community focused on addressing STEAM inequities. Corporate recognition of the value in diversity and partnerships with nonprofit allies have bolstered this movement. YWCA, in response to stakeholder feedback, has formed the Equity in STEAM Coalition, led by YWCA and Intel Arizona. This coalition aims to cultivate diversity and inclusivity in STEAM, fostering collaboration and collective action for meaningful change.
\nImportance:
\nThe YWCA Equity in STEAM coalition addresses systemic barriers hindering women and people of color in STEAM careers, which is crucial as Arizona positions itself as a tech hub. The coalition cultivates diverse STEAM talent by supporting nonprofits and schools statewide, enhancing economic prosperity and competitiveness.
\nGrant Utilization:
\nFunding will support Year 1 activities, including workshops, resources, and events to engage stakeholders and advance equity in STEAM. It will directly contribute to coalition sustainability and impact, not for re-granting purposes.

\nWithout the coalition, gender and racial gaps in STEAM would persist, impede Arizona’s ability to innovate and leverage its diverse talent pool, and stunt growth and advancement.
