The J Noah Skills Academy is an innovative youth mentorship program located on Maryland\u2019s Eastern Shore that teaches middle and high school student-athletes project management skills through the lens of basketball. Our vision is that students who graduate from the Academy will possess the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to succeed both personally and professionally.<\/p>\n
The Academy respectfully requests an invitation to apply for funding to expand our program from serving 10 student-athletes in the summertime only to more than 60 through year-round programming.<\/p>\n
The Academy helps student-athletes learn project management tools and their applications in a format that is easily understood through the use of basketball. These tools enable students to better manage the small details and routines of everyday life and provide sought-after skills for when they enter the workforce. The curriculum is based on frameworks provided by the Project Management Institute, which are reinforced with basketball content. <\/p>\n
The program consists of two parts: basketball training and classroom time. During basketball training, student-athletes practice drills using a Dr. Dish shooting machine with the ability to track their progress over time. Exercises learned during founder Jordan Pearlstein\u2019s recent certification training with Coach Phil Handy of the LA Lakers are also incorporated. This time helps athletes hone their skills while reinforcing the importance of consistency and discipline when working toward a goal.<\/p>\n
During classroom time, students work through a customized curriculum that uses basketball-related examples and terminology to introduce project management concepts, including
\ntime management, goal setting, risk assessment, contingency planning, and more. Students
\nimplement these concepts by using the NBA 2K24 PlayStation video game to complete a series of tasks, culminating in a mock NBA draft. After NBA draft, student-athletes create a Mentee Action Plan, identifying their personal, athletic, and academic goals and create a framework for attainment.\n<\/p>\n

\nSources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Both MT&T bank and Saint Marks United Methodist Church have commited $5,000. From last years summer program, we received funding from ARPA Funds, Waddell Foundation, Wal-Mart, Bryan Bros Foundation, and Founder Donations. We have 15 potential funding sources that are currently pending. <\/p>\n
